Study Abroad in Paris – Applications due April 7th

FALL QUARTER IN PARIS

The application deadline for the Comparative Literature Study Abroad Program in Paris (October 1 to December 3, 2017), has been extended to April 7, 2017.

This interdisciplinary program offers students a unique opportunity to earn 15 UW credits while living and studying in one of the most vibrant and beautiful cities in the world. The program is open to all UW and non-UW students with an interest in the humanities and arts, and who have completed FRENCH 103 by the beginning of the program. (Please note that the language prerequisite can be met by taking the intensive FRENCH 134 during the summer).

The program fee is $6,520. This includes tuition (waived), housing and board. Travel fellowships available.

International Summer School – Advanced Urban Design

We would like to take this opportunity to introduce IEREK, International Experts for Research Enrichment and Knowledge Exchange, as it is known for exchanging knowledge and enhancing research, on an international level, through training courses, workshops, conferences, publication services and much more.

As one of our aims is to Exchange knowledge, I would like to bring your attention the International Summer School – Advanced Urban Design that will be held in Rome, Italy, on the 10st -23th of July 2017.

The fees of the course is (£ 780) including course material, and accommodation for 11 nights on double or triple rooms basis.

For a group of 10 persons, the university welcomes a supervisor for free.

The deadline of registration will be on the 25th of March 2017.

Seattle City Government Boards/Commission Internship

The Accelerator YMCA and City of Seattle would like to announce that we are accepting applications for the 2017-2018 Get Engaged program! The Get Engaged program is a collaborative program of the Accelerator YMCA and the City of Seattle, dedicated to cultivating the next generation of leaders and advocating for the influence of young voices in city affairs.

We place one emerging leader aged 18-29 on each of the participating 19 City of Seattle Boards and Commissions for the upcoming September 2017-August 2018 term. The Get Engaged program provides a chance for young people in Seattle to develop skills as an emerging leader, participate in the public decision-making process, increase youth civic engagement, and help shape policy decisions. Applicants do not need any prior experience serving on boards to be qualified candidates. Summer Internships – $5k Scholarship

The CoMotion Mary Gates Innovation Scholars internship program is now accepting applications! Students can spend Summer quarter working as interns with UW faculty-led start-up companies, seeking to transfer research to real-world applications. Participants will build upon their strengths and learn about intellectual property and entrepreneurship through hands-on teamwork with an emerging company.

Each Innovation Scholar will receive a $5,000 scholarship and earn course credit.

Students with backgrounds in art, biology, botany, business, chemistry, civil & environmental engineering, computer science & engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, microbiology, linguistics, neuroscience, physics, public health, psychology, speech & hearing sciences, statistics, visual communications, web design and more should apply. Ten different internships are available this year, across a broad spectrum of engineering, health sciences, and natural sciences.

WHAT: CoMotion Mary Gates Innovation Scholars
WHEN: Summer 2017 (June 19 – August 18)

Scholarship for Undergraduate Students in Planning

IBTTA and the IBTTA Foundation have established a new scholarship program to assist current undergraduate students pursuing degrees in engineering, city and regional planning, construction management, public policy or public administration and other transportation-related fields. IBTTA will award up to two $5,000 scholarships each year. Applications must be submitted on or before April 4, or be within the first 200 applications submitted, whichever occurs first. LIVING COMMUNITY CHALLENGE + JUST SUMMER INTERN

TITLE: Living Community Challenge and Just Summer Intern

STATUS: Temporary

REPORTS TO: LCC and Just Managers

HOURS: 40 hours/week, May through August

LOCATION: Seattle, WA

COMPENSATION: $15 per hour

The International Living Future Institute (ILFI), a dynamic and fast growing non-profit, seeks an exceptional LCC and Just Summer Intern to support its programs. ILFI’s mission is to lead and support the transformation toward communities that are socially just, culturally rich and ecologically restorative. The successful candidate must exhibit a strong passion for the environment and the organization’s mission as a whole.

The Living Community Challenge is a framework for master planning, design, and construction. It is a tool to create a symbiotic relationship between people and all aspects of the built environment. The Just program is a voluntary disclosure tool for organizations to disclose their operations, including how they treat their employees and where they make financial and community investments.

Compensation is paid hourly.

Just Program (50%):

  • Research, analysis and metric development for expansion of the Just Program
  • Identify opportunities for program acceptance & recognition across multiple sectors/industries
  • Develop a standard framework for reporting case studies
  • Identify major branding and marketing communications opportunities

 

Living Community Challenge Program (50%):

  • Develop and revise case studies for the Living Community Challenge Program
  • Assist with community scaled research
  • Assist with database management and clean up

REQUIRED:

  • Currently a student in a related Master’s program
  • Commitment to ILFI’s mission, the green building movement, and sustainability, specifically with a passion for social justice and the application of Living Building principles at the community level.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong power point skills and familiarity with Adobe Suite.
  • Experience with a CRM system, ideally Salesforce.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of stakeholders representing different organizations, backgrounds and perspectives.

DESIRABLE:

  • Knowledge of green building design, construction strategies, technologies and materials and the ability to articulate the environmental, health, and economic benefits of green building.
  • Experience in a non-profit setting.
  • Familiarity with ILFI’s core programs (Living Building Challenge, Living Community Challenge, Living Product Challenge, Net Zero Energy, Declare, JUST).
  • Graphic design skills
  • Mac OS familiarity.
