SDOT Wayfinding Opportunity

There’s a potential opportunity at the Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) for students to help inform a wayfinding project. It would involve helping to do qualitative surveys downtown. RainWise Internship – Winter 2017

For Winter and Spring quarter, Urban Systems Design is looking for an intern to help with our RainWise outreach work in Seattle. The job will be about 12-25 hours per week and include some weekend and evening event outreach (tabling at events, etc.)

We are looking for a highly capable person who can work independently (meeting with our team regularly) and has an interest in urban sustainability planning, equitable outreach, stormwater education, green infrastructure design, and more.

I can set this up as an Independent Study if they want to get credit for Winter or Spring quarter, but this is an unpaid position for now. If the person works out we are looking for this unpaid intern to become a paid subconsultant/staff person starting in May or June.

Learn more about what spending a quarter studying full time in the San Juan Islands can mean for you. Courses are available for students starting their exploration of marine biology up to senior undergraduates. Meet some of our teaching faculty and learn how to apply and fund your quarter at ‘FHL’.

Hall Health Mental Health – Winter Quarter Groups 2017

1. Relationship and Life Skills Group: Thursdays 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Explore common signs of anxiety and learn how to approach the anxiety in your life and situations you tend to avoid. If you are interested in learning more about the group, please contact facilitators Chia-Wen Moon at chiawen@uw.edu

2. Beginning Mindfulness Meditation Group: Wednesdays 4:00 to 5:30 am. Mindfulness meditation is a practice that involves cultivating attention to the present moment in a nonjudgmental manner. The benefits of mindfulness meditation have been widely studied and include alleviating symptoms of depression and anxiety, increasing capacity for attention and concentration, improving self-esteem, enhancing resilience to stress. No prior knowledge or experience is required. Participants will be provided with materials, instruction and support for building and sustaining a meditation practice. To enroll contact the Mental Health Clinic at (206) 543-5030 option #4 and and ask for Karin Rogers to schedule a screening appointment.

3. Mindfulness Meditation Follow-up Groups: Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon to 1:00 pm., Fridays from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. Ongoing. For those who are already familiar with mindfulness meditation and want to continue in an open, ongoing, weekly group. An 8-week commitment is recommended. Facilitated by Meghann Gerber, PsyD. (Wed & Thu) and Carey DeMartini (Fri). Contact Meghann at 206-543-5030 option #4.

4. International Student Support Group: Mondays 1:30 to 3:00 pm. This is a support group for international students who want to develop interpersonal skills, increase emotional awareness, and practice self-care habits in a multi-cultural context. If you’re interested in the group or have questions, please contact the group facilitator, Chia-Wen Moon at chiawen@uw.edu or call 206-543-5030, option #4.

5. Procrastination/Perfectionism Group: Two Sections – Wednesdays from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. and Fridays from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Ongoing. This is group for folks who struggle with procrastinating and being perfectionist. Learn how to be less anxious about being anxious, which includes seeing clearly that there is no need to avoid experiencing anxiety. Facilitator: Ricardo Hidalgo, LMHC. 6. A Mindful Approach to Anxiety: Tuesdays 2:00 to 3:30 pm. Explore common signs of anxiety and learn how to approach the anxiety in your life and situations you tend to avoid.
